The Flu Clinic Locator will help you find clinics at other times and locations. The health department wants you to get your flu shot, (for crying out loud!) even if you don’t get it from us.

Adult clients belonging to a Medicare HMO, Managed Medicaid (such as Priority Health Medicaid), or who have private insurance that covers the cost of the flu shot must visit their private provider’s office in order have the fees covered.

Adult clients who have straight Medicaid may get a flu shot at the health department by making an appointment at the branch office of choice.

Children who are uninsured, who have insurance that does not cover the cost of vaccines, or who have Medicaid may get a flu shot at the health department by making an appointment at the branch office of choice.

Facts about the flu vaccine:

  1. The flu shot cannot cause the flu because the vaccine is made from a killed virus which cannot cause illness. Some people experience swelling and soreness but these symptoms usually go away within 2 days.
  2. Nothing is 100% effective, not even the flu shot! Some people who get the flu shot still experience the flu, although it does not happen often. The good news about getting your flu shot and still getting the flu is that the symptoms are often milder, and decreases the odds of other side effects from the flu. It is important to remember that a flu vaccine does not protect you from other viruses that may have similar symptoms as the flu.
  3. The best time to get vaccinated is October or November. But you can get vaccinated in December or later.
