Michigan Works is the agency that leads the state in training the workforce. And now Michigan Works has a unit designed specifically to assist you, the business owner/manager as you seek to increase competitiveness, stay lean and retrain your workforce.
This unit is called the Business Services Unit.
When you need help in areas that don’t fit your day–to–day business model, the Business Services Unit will meet with you and draw upon expert resources that are leveraged to bring efficiencies to your business.
Issues or questions may arise that take you to unfamiliar territory. Questions such as:
- What tax incentives can I take advantage of if I relocate within the region?
- How can I find the skilled workforce I’ll need if I expand my facility’s production capacity and square footage?
- In which area does the most skilled labor live?
- How can I increase headcount (or downsize) effectively and responsibly?
The Business Services Unit partners with local and regional economic developers, centers of education, training facilities, workforce boards, chambers of commerce, business leaders, elected officials and others. These partnerships tap areas of expertise in any necessary field and assist in bringing about a solution that is tailored specifically to your needs.
Michigan Works exists to ensure the economic success of this region. From working with businesses on issues such as tax abatements, market diversity and human resource functionality, to up–skilling the workforce through training and tuition reimbursement Michigan Works is there to enable success at all levels.
The purpose of the Business Services Unit is to help you move ahead successfully and not lose momentum.
The Business Services Unit offers two levels of service. Level One Services are typically performed at the service center in Holland and have been offered to businesses for many years. These services are generally human resource-related and can be outsourced to Michigan Works staff. These services include:

Level Two Services focus on the partnerships Michigan Works has with local and regional experts, centers of excellence and business leaders to attract business and maintain competitive strengths in a global marketplace. Michigan Works’ Business Services Unit is a consultant and partner. The team’s knowledge and reach extend into the areas below as well as many others.
