Resume Writing by Thompson M-TEC
To teach the basics of designing a professional resume, a list of appropriate references, a corresponding cover letter, and a thank-you letter that follows an interview. An individual one-on-one resume consultation can be scheduled following the resume-writing workshop with a member of Michigan Works! Service Center staff.

Interviewing by Thompson M-TEC
To assist individuals who have not interviewed recently and those who would like to strengthen their interviewing techniques. This workshop will cover the “how to” of getting an interview, preparing for an interview, answering interview questions accurately, learning what questions should not be asked, and how to follow up after an interview.

Steps to Success by Employment Services
Not sure what Michigan Works! has to offer? Then this is the seminar for you. Participants will receive an overview of all services provided by Michigan Works! as well as a formal introduction to all the agencies and programs housed here. This workshop will also update and “fine tune” your job searching skills. Increased confidence will give you the “edge” in selling yourself as an excellent asset to potential employers. Every aspect of your job search will be addressed. You will gain insight into goal setting, effective networking, importance of cover letters and thank you letters, applications, assessments, career planning and much more.

Career Skills Assessment by Employment Services
We utilize the CASAS testing system to determine basic English and math skill levels. This basic assessment is followed up by the computer based O*NET® Career Planning Software. Utilizing these tools, we can assist you in determining what career you may be suited for and guide you in the right direction regarding future employment opportunities.

Internet Job Searching by Employment Services
Participants will learn how to use the Internet to effectively search for employment and gain a basic understanding of what the Internet is and how it is accessed. Topics include Internet addresses, hyperlinks, search engines, and how to send e-mail attachments. This course includes instruction on how to search for job postings using the Michigan Talent Bank and career searching using the Career Portal, O*NET®, and Open Options®.

Surviving Your New Job by Michigan Works!
"Congratulations, you got the Job! Now, how do you keep it? This workshop offers survival tips to be a successful new employee. Topics include building good relationships with your co-workers and supervisor, learning your job while increasing productivity, and handling difficult situations new employees commonly face. If you ever felt anxious about starting a new job, and encountered situations on the new job you didn't know how to handle, this workshop is for you."

High School General Equivalency Diploma (GED) Classes
Possessing a High School Diploma or GED is now a necessity for the job seeker, even for entry level work. Michigan Works! offers free self-paced, comprehensive GED preparation classes for all job seekers. Besides daily classes offered at the Michigan Works! Holland Service Center, GED classes are offered in the Grand Haven area every Monday, 9 AM - 12 PM & 6 - 9 PM at Grand Haven Gospel Chapel, 1805 Waverly Avenue, Grand Haven.
