WorkKeys®, and WorkKeys® Assessments

WorkKeys® Foundational Skills Assessment measures the skills that employers say their most successful employees demonstrate. Three of these tests, Applied Mathematics, Reading for Information and Locating Information, make up the National Career Readiness Certificate.

These specific tests were chosen for the National Career Readiness Certificate because most employers have identified these as being most critical to workplace success.

When an individual performs well on the WorkKeys® tests and attains a National Career Readiness Certificate at the Bronze, Silver, or Gold level, an employer can be assured that this individual has demonstrated essential skills important across a wide range of jobs.

Not only can Ottawa County Michigan Works! assess potential employee skills, but also help up-skill weak areas. The KeyTrain system helps increase the skill level of individuals by offering practice tests to assess skills, and lessons to teach foundational skills.

Ottawa County Michigan Works! offers WorkKeys® testing twice a week; once in the Holland Service Center, and once in the Grand Haven Service Center. The KeyTrain Learning Lab is open three days a week in the Holland Service Center, and two days a week in the Grand Haven Service Center. A Learning Coach is available during these lab hours to familiarize individuals with the KeyTrain System, and to offer individualized assistance with targeted learning challenges.

Ottawa County Michigan Works! has been recognized as a leader in West Michigan in implementation and use of WorkKeys® tests. Many area employers are discovering the value of the National Career Readiness Certificate as one more tool to aide in the selection of skilled workers for their job openings.

The Michigan Works! service center provides workshops to help those taking the WorkKeys test to study and prepare for the test. Workshops are listed on the Michigan Works! service center calendar.
