About the Crisis Intervention Team
The Ottawa County Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) is a Memphis-model program in partnership with local first responder agencies and other stakeholders across Ottawa County. The program continues working to transform crisis response in the county, to ensure citizens experiencing a behavioral health crisis are connected to appropriate resources and treatment as soon as possible. Support and oversight is provided by the Ottawa County Advisory Council.
40-hour trainings are typically hosted twice annually, once in the Spring and once in the Fall and are capped at 25 attendees – all first responders in Ottawa County are eligible to attend the training. Mobile Crisis Response is also available to all Ottawa County responders – see below.
Mobile Crisis Response
Two-person response available 24/7 through 616-494-5590
- Crisis Responders can provide de-escalation support, risk assessment, safety planning, coordination with hospitals and probate, and referrals to treatment
- Crisis Responders are also available for phone consultation, assistance with basic needs, and follow-up contacts for individuals and families in the days following contact with emergency services personnel
What calls is Mobile Crisis Response best equipped for:
- Behavioral health issues, including: Treatment needs and medication issues, substance use issues, risk of harm to self and others, and navigating probate services and the hospital admissions process.
- Quality of life issues, including: Parenting and relationship challenges, assistance with basic needs and community resources, coordination of care between multiple agencies/providers and accessing community-based support.
