Citizen Corps
The mission of Citizen Corps is to harness the power of every individual through education, training and volunteer service to make communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to the threats of terrorism, crime, public health issues, and disasters of all kinds.
CERT - Community Emergency Response Team
As part of the national Citizen Corps Program, this versatile team consists of members that have taken an eight week course in disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster first aid. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist their own communities and other volunteer groups during a large-scale incident. Members are also active in assisting Emergency Management and their communities with Emergency Preparedness education and other assigned tasks.
Medical Reserve Corps
This group of volunteers is particularly unique as it consists mostly of medical professionals (doctors, nurses, EMTs etc.) that are willing to lend their skills as medical professionals during a large-scale emergencies. This could be a Public Health emergency or a different type of mass casualty incident.
