Health Insurance Options

Health insurance coverage may be available for qualifying individuals - insurance is not required for most Ottawa County Department of Public Health services.

For children

  • Medicaid - provides comprehensive health care services to adults and children who qualify based on income
  • MIChild - covers medically necessary services for uninsured children up to age 19
  • Healthy Kids / Healthy Kids Dental – provides a wide range of health care coverage and support services for qualifying pregnant women, babies, and children under age 19 (Healthy Kids Dental coverage is through age 20)
  • Children’s Special Health Care Services – provides coverage for specialty medical care up to age 26 and for some adults over age 26. Eligibility is based on qualifying medical conditions and not on income. Coverage for a first-time evaluation visit to a specialty care provider may be available.

If you are pregnant

  • Medicaid - covers pregnancy care (prenatal, delivery, and post-partum) and other comprehensive health care services for individuals who qualify, based on income
  • Maternity Outpatient Medical Services (MOMS) – provides health coverage for pregnant or recently pregnant women who are eligible for Emergency Services Only Medicaid, including immediate prenatal care while a Medicaid application is pending
  • Healthy Kids / Healthy Kids Dental – provides a wide range of health care coverage and support services for qualifying pregnant women, babies, and children under age 19 (Healthy Kids Dental coverage is through age 20)

For adults

  • Healthy Michigan Plan - provides health care benefits at a low cost to Michigan residents age 19-64 who meet eligibility requirements
  • Medicaid – provides comprehensive health care services to adults and children who qualify, based on income
  • HealthCare.gov – the Health Insurance Marketplace, for individuals who do not qualify for Medicaid
