Mission Statement
The mission of those serving the City of Ferrysburg/Village of Spring Lake as members of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office continues to be that of assisting the residents and visitors of the City of Ferrysburg and Village of Spring Lake in a mutual desire for a safe and secure communities through our dedication in providing law enforcement and related services at the highest possible standards while respecting the rights of all people.
General Information
Effective July 1, 2014, the Law Enforcement Services for the City of Ferrysburg and the Village of Spring Lake have become the responsibility of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office.
In 1989 the Ferrysburg and Spring Lake Police Departments combined to form one department, which was designed to provide high quality police services while controlling expenditures. With the recent change on July 1, 2014, the Sheriff's Office will continue to provide 24-hour law enforcement services to both the City of Ferrysburg and the Village of Spring Lake and their 5,456 residents.
The primary office for local Sheriff’s Office operations is located within the Spring Lake Township Offices located at 106 S. Buchanan with a satellite office at the Ferrysburg City Hall. The Sheriff's Office is open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The office can be contacted at (616) 215-1595 for non-emergency questions or call the Sheriff's Office Headquarters at (888) 731-1001 or (616) 738-4000. The Sheriff’s Office is part of the Ottawa County Central Dispatch 911 System. All requests for law enforcement service should be made to Central Dispatch at (800) 249-0911 (non-emergency) or in the case of an emergency, call 911 directly. There are also phones located in the lobby of the Ferrysburg and Spring Lake Offices which have a direct line to Central Dispatch.

Local Parking
Overnight Parking: No-overnight parking is allowed on any street or parking lot in the City of Ferrysburg and the Village of Spring Lake between December 1st and April 1st. This is to assist our Department of Public Works for snow removal. If there is no snow during this time, the parking restrictions are still in effect.In the City of Ferrysburg Ordinance 50.16(C) A person shall not stop, stand, or park a vehicle, including any item trailered or towed by a vehicle, including a delivery vehicle, on any public street right-of-way, except as otherwise provided by law.
Violations: Violators of these rules will receive a written citation. The citations can be mailed to or dropped off at the Village of Spring Lake/City of Ferrysburg Sheriff’s Office. Fines and conditions are listed on the citation.
Seasonal Parking Restrictions
In order to keep our employees and equipment as safe as possible and to more efficiently remove snow from the City, we must enforce seasonal parking restrictions. From December 1st thru April 1st, you may not park on any street or in any public parking lot from 2 a.m. - 6 a.m. The Sheriff’s Office will issue warnings during the first week of December and tickets will be issuedthereafter. The seasonal parking restrictions are not based on a certain amount of snowfall, but are based on a time period (above). Residents and visitors are encouraged to make alternate parking and/or transportation arrangements if they cannot meet the parking ordinance.
** In the Village of Spring Lake if the fine is not paid within seven (7) days, the fine doubles. If a fine is not paid it can be reissued as a Uniform Traffic Citation, where failure to pay would result in a warrant for your arrest.
Purchase Permit for a Hand Gun
- An individual may apply for a License to Purchase a Pistol (LTP) at any police agency in the state that issues LTP forms. The purchaser must send the Michigan State Police (MSP) copy of the LTP to the agency that issued it.
- Present a valid picture ID (such as a driver’s license) at the Sheriff's Office. A criminal records check will be conducted. Once the record check is completed, a permit will be issued and it MUST be used within 30 days or it is void. Once you have purchased your hand gun you MUST return the MSP Copy of the Application and License to Purchase a Pistol form to the Sheriff’s Office within 10 days.
- If an individual purchases a pistol from a Federal Firearm Licensed (FFL) dealer, a LTP is not required. However, a Purchase Sales Record (PSR) must be completed and the seller’s FFL number must be recorded on that form. The purchaser m ust send the MSP copy of the PSR to the law enforcement agency in the jurisdiction where he/she resides.
