Semco Energy is a utility company that provides natural gas services to many residents in Ottawa County. To promote energy efficiency and reduce energy consumption, Semco Energy offers furnace or water heater replacements for qualifying Semco Customers in Ottawa County whose appliances are inoperable or unrepairable. The program helps more residents have access to essential heating and hot water services while promoting energy efficiency and affordability.
How to Apply
- Complete an Online Application
Submit an online application using the link provided. You’ll enter basic household information and upload required documents. Apply Now - Upload Your Documents
At Step 4, you’ll upload copies of your photo ID and proof of income for all adults in the household (last 30 days). Submitting complete documentation helps us process your request faster. - Watch for Follow-Up
We will email you if additional information is needed and to inform you of next steps. Please check your email regularly (or ensure your voicemail is set up if you don’t use email). Processing time is a minimum of 3 business days.
What You’ll Need
Please have the following items ready before applying:
- Photo ID for the applicant
- Names and dates of birth for all household members
- Proof of income for all household members age 18+ (last 30 days) OR an approved State Emergency Relief (SER) determination letter from MDHHS
- A copy of your SEMCO bill

If your equipment qualifies for replacement, you’ll receive clear, energy‑efficient options designed to lower utility costs and improve comfort. Our team will help you choose what works best for your household. - Complete the Replacement
Once finalized, OCCAA coordinates the installation with certified professionals. Your new furnace or water heater will be installed quickly and safely, helping create a more reliable and energy‑efficient home.
