Mission Statement
The mission of those serving Holland Charter Township as members of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office is to preserve public order, support the constitution of the State of Michigan, and enforce the laws and ordinances of our state, county and township.
General Information
Law enforcement services are provided to the residents of Holland Charter Township by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
In 1975 E-Unit services were initiated through a partnership between the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office and Holland and Park Townships as an extra voted millage as a means to supplement the basic sheriff road patrol services. During the 1980’s, the extra voted millage was increased to accommodate the increasing calls for illness/injury service and to add proactive community policing services for the residents, businesses and visitors to Holland Charter Township. Holland Charter Township is very diverse with residential, businesses and industrial facilities. The township is approx. 29 square miles and has a population of 35,636 (2010 census).
The branch office for the Holland area Sheriff’s Office operations is located in the rear of the Holland Charter Township Fire Station #2, located at 12169 James St (James St west of US31). The office is not staffed full time and those needing law enforcement services are asked to contact Ottawa County Central Dispatch Authority, 1-800-249-0911 (non-emergency) or in the case of emergency, call 911 directly. Holland Charter Township Offices are located at 353 N 120th Ave and are open from 8a-5p.
Community Policing
The community policing unit focuses on resolving crime through proactive law enforcement initiatives by providing neighborhood crime prevention strategies, traffic control enforcement and education, ordinance enforcement, school resource officers and programs, business contacts and training and public assistance services.
Community Information
Burning and Trash
Anyone who wants to burn branches and/or brush needs to have a burning permit. Permits can be obtained by calling the Township Office at 395-0196, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. – Noon and 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Permits are issued for up to three days, contingent on weather conditions.
The township does offer FREE disposal of trash and yard waste from April-October each year, for more information contact Holland Charter Township for dates and locations or visit the website.
Fireworks
Holland Charter Township has adopted a new ordinance regulating the ignition, discharge, and use of consumer fireworks. Please be advised that the use of consumer fireworks is only permitted on the day preceding, the day of, and the day after a national holiday. Consumer fireworks may not be discharged during the hours of 1:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Please review the Fireworks Ordinance for a complete list of the rules and regulations pertaining to the use of consumer fireworks in Holland Township.

Home Security Checks
Ottawa County community police officers offer free vacation security checks for residents away from their homes, businesses, or facilities. Deputies will periodically check the exterior of the property to deter burglars and enhance security while the property is unoccupied.
